Way overpriced but a nice view Went for dinner last night and thought the service was great but that the food was way overpriced. We started with the pan seared scallops which, at $6.50 each, we imagined would be of a good size. They were tiny. Tasty but tiny. We had three each so it came to almost $40 just for the scallops. My wife had the halibut which was perfectly prepared and tender.
I have the 16 ounce rack of lamb which I had to send back because it was under cooked. I found it to be rather chewy and at $55 way overpriced.
With two drinks and the tip, the bill came to over $200.

Recommended Good food. Beautiful view of the city. Good service. I usually end up at The Salmon House at some point during a Vancouver visit and it's been consistently good for many years. A salad and spring rolls to start. Very good. This time my wife had the salmon Wellington, which, while I'd hesitate to call it "Wellington", was very good, as was my sablefish. Both plates well presented with a different variety of vegetables for each. Definitely recommended.

NEVER DISPPOINTS Was there last Sunday for brunch. The weather was with us and of course the view was outstanding. We always take out of town guests here for just that reason, as well as the fabulous west coast décor.
As I was not that hungry, had the apple/fennel salad and it was a perfect size. Our guest loved the seafood pasta dish.
Service was, as always, great.

Even better this time Last night my wife, myself and a close friend ate at the Salmon House. It has been quite a while since we last enjoyed a meal at the Salmon House as my wife has a fish and seafood allergy but our friend loves seafood and this is the place to satisfy his food choice.
Our reservation was handled efficiently and our request for a window seat was met.
Much to our delight there was a special “Vancouver eat out” three course menu as well as their usual menu. We all took advantage of this special menu. Our friend ordered the coconut and carrot soup as an appetizer then salmon with vegetables and mashed potatoes. He waited to make his decision regarding desert. My wife ordered a regular beet and goat cheese salad for her appetizer. As expected she ordered beef filet which had several vegetables and fingerling potatoes. She also ordered her desert later. I ordered the Salmon House sampler which was three variations of seafood with a tasty dipping sauce. I also had the beef filet. I pre ordered my desert which was a flourless chocolate cake.
In addition our friend ordered a glass of white wine to go with his fish dish while my wife had a glass of red wine to compliment her beef.
Our meals arrived within a reasonable time period. We were pleased that our beef was done exactly to our specifications. I should point out that bread is not included with the meal and is an extra expense. My friend and my wife later decided on the flourless chocolate cake for their desert.
We were all delighted with the entire dinner. In addition both our waiter and the young girl bussing were very helpful and friendly.
Even though my wife has a seafood allergy, we definitely will be back soon as they obviously have items on their menu for persons like my wife.
The whole evening was a huge success thanks to the Salmon House on the Hill.

Great View For Out-of-of-town Guests I had not been to the Salmon House in years but had relatives in town and thought it would be a location for brunch. The view of the city from there is amazing and the food was very good. I recommend this if you have guests in town, I will be back.

One of the best views in Vancouver! I like this restaurant for a few reasons. We ate here the night we got engaged in 1993, we filmed a meeting here when we did Love It or List It, the seafood is very good, great wine list, unbeatable view of the sunset, and Vancouver.
We sometimes have a drink in the lounge area to listen to live jazz. This is a Vancouver classic.
Brunch lunch and dinner are all good.

Service was great, food was hot and all the orders were right. Dessert choice was good as well

Outstanding in Every Respect The Salmon House has been a (West) Vancouver mainstay for 45 years, which is a lifetime by today’s restaurant standards.... read moreThe Salmon House has been a (West) Vancouver mainstay for 45 years, which is a lifetime by today’s restaurant standards. In that time, they’ve accumulated numerous accolades, including positive word from the likes of the Vancouver Sun, VanFoodies.com, Lonely Planet and North Shore News, to name but a few. While I don’t often agree with the critics and pundits, I do think Lonely Planet gets it right with respect to Salmon House: An “old-school destination restaurant” that “doesn’t rest on its laurels.” Indeed, far from coasting on its name recognition, Salmon House delivers a classic seafood-based menu with little to no fuss!
I first became aware of Salmon House in 2010. At the time, I flagged it as a “must try” place by virtue of its association with other restaurants in the Geoff Howes group – Aqua Riva (closed in 2011) and Horizons (closed in 2020); however, I failed to note the “West” in Vancouver (an area I don’t frequent). Thus, visiting this establishment fell on the backburner for the better part of 11 years . . . odd how it took a pandemic for me to decide “now’s the time!”
Anyway, the family and I attended Salmon House for dinner in the final week of August. The hostess was pleasant and showed us to our table – a lovely booth near the impressive floor-to-ceiling windows. Upon being seated, I couldn’t help but be drawn to the deck and thus made my way outside to enjoy the unobstructed cliff-top city views of Vancouver. Walking outside, Burrard Inlet and Stanley Park immediately grab your attention and highlight, only too clearly, why Salmon House has become a destination restaurant for many: The setting can’t be beat and the food highlights some of BC’s best.
Reviewing the menu at Salmon House, it’s clear the focus is on fresh (seasonal) BC seafood and that, to me, is exciting. Why place emphasis on elsewhere when there’s so much to offer in our own beautiful Province? That said, we ordered a number of different items. To start, we had the homemade bread, Pan-Seared Scallops, Chili Prawn Spring Rolls, and a Caesar Salad. For our mains, we ordered the Salmon House Chowder, Lobster Pappardelle and the Seafood Tower for 2 (can you tell we were hungry?).
I won’t comment on each and every item, but there were some definite highlights:
House-Made Bread: I know it seems almost silly to comment on bread, but Salmon House’s ability to execute something so simple so well highlights, in the clearest possible way, their tendency towards a high quality product. The bread was warm and soft and came served with a beautiful smoked salmon butter. The salmon flavour was prominent, worked well with the bread and provided a preview of the deliciousness yet to come.
Pan-Seared Scallops: These were $6.50 each and came with an eggplant tomato confit, candied salmon (atop the scallop), Basil pesto and micro greens. We enjoyed the scallops – they were cooked to perfection and their presentation was spot-on; however, I do feel they might’ve been a little pricey for their size.
Chili Prawn Spring Rolls: Utilizing a simple and straightforward presentation, the ingredients were able to take center stage. The passion fruit vinaigrette worked well with the prawn and its accompanying fennel slaw.
Salmon House Chowder: Served in the Manhattan style, the House Chowder came loaded with fish, complemented by shrimp, carrots, celery and onions. It was hearty – as any good chowder should be – and highlighted some of Salmon House’s best qualities, namely their skill at bringing together a plethora of flavours into a single, delicious soup.
Seafood Tower for 2: Designed for those who’d like a bit of everything, the seafood tower gives you chilled and grilled fish as well as the “seafood feast bowl.” It’s a lot of food – I’d argue more than enough for even 3 people – but it places a strong emphasis on both fish and shellfish, making them the central ingredients. No fancy fillers here!
I’d be remiss if I failed to mention the service we received over the course of dinner. In short, it was exceptional. Our server checked in regularly – though not enough to be intrusive – to ensure everything was to our liking. Importantly, too, our water and beverage glasses were never left empty. Salmon House clearly understands the value of good customer service and the role it plays in the overall dining experience.
FOOD: 5/5
SERVICE: 5/5
VALUE: 5/5
RECOMMENDATION: With its relaxed atmosphere, superlative service and outstanding food, Salmon House has demonstrated how and why it’s been around for 45 years. The menu is straightforward BC-inspired seafood, but the execution is deceptively complex. The end result is an experience not soon forgotten. My only regret? That it took me 11 years to finally get here!

My issue was resolved by 'Diane' at Customer Service and finalized by 'Sunny Kim' at Head Office. It was resolved in a most professional, caring and respectful manner, as one could ever expect.
I too, have worked in 'customer service' for more than 35 years and know how people should be treated and how issues should be addressed. The ownership of this very reputable restaurant, should be very grateful and thankful for having these two very special employees.
Not just for the fact that this is a very well known venue but I will certainly return and forward off "my story" to my friends and colleagues on account of this 'class act' shown by these two individuals.
Thank YOU....for caring!
For that alone... I rate and give YOU ... "5*****'s"!!!!!

Warm and comfortable, intimate even, this place wraps you up like a wool blanket, and then puts plates of some of the best food anywhere in front of you -- Pacific coast salmon, fish, and seafood. Cooking salmon with alder is really the best for flavour -- easily better than cedar plank or other methods -- and the chef's here do bring the alder wood in because they know their flavours. The Salmon Trio is a signature dish, tonight I had coho, sockeye, and spring salmon all the on the same plate. Five stars. read less - 12/09/2019

This was held in the private room with a large veranda and a beautiful view of the city, harbour and the Lions Gate bridge. The excellent food was passed around on plates throughout the evening by the very attentive staff. The definite inclination towards seafood was very much appreciated by the many. The service was great and we had a great time. While we have always loved the main dining room for smaller get-togethers, we will certainly keep this venue in mind for any other larger functions. read less - 8/09/2019

Dining on a normal weekday gives you a more personal service with time to enjoy the view. During the dine out period, they can get busy, but food quality is still on par (and above, if anything). I have also attended a wedding reception here. Although the layout can be a bit tough, they offer two level seating, so more people can see the love seat head table. Their service that day was also spectacular. They offer Open Table reservations, which is a perk as well. Only down side is that the drive up and parking lot can get quite dark, so drive in with a friend or know your route well. read less - 8/09/2019

Only thing I would ask for was a bit more sauce on the steak. The dessert consisted of a beautiful crème brulle, a very interesting sweet ravioli and sorbets! Everything from the appetizers, mains, & desserts are all top level. The wine list is very deep and high end. The service was fantastic and on point. If you want to experience real West Coast culinary this is the place to be. The selection of the menu is carefully handpicked and well put together, kudos for the chef. Price is not cheap but for that you get a superb service in a very elegant and classic environment. The view from the tables is spectacular, basically you can see the whole Lower Mainland right from your table. There is plenty parking spots are available so you do not have to worry about that. They have old school charm and values that they take very seriously and show this through their extraordinary customer service. Every employee wears very professional black and white ensembles and wait on you like your the queen of the house on the hill. From coat check, to friendly and lightning speed service.
Their food also includes quite classic flavours and may not be super exciting for foodies but its flavours that are familiar and a great place to go as a big family. The portions are decent sized and presented beautifully.
Now on to my favorited... could you go to a place with the word salmon in it and not indulge??? I don't think so...we'll not for me at least. The salmon butter that comes with the bread adds a nice smoky creamy note. Trios are my faves as I get to try foods prepared different ways and guess what it is? You guessed right...salmon! Candied, gravlax and smoked...mmmmmm; candied is just melt in your mouth amazing! Now on to the entrees I love variety so I go with another type of trio except this one has three different types of salmon instead of being prepared differently; coho, sockeye and chinook with sockeye being my favourite.
Now if you're looking for something other than salmon I'd go with the creamy seafood risotto or lobster gnocchi. I'm sure that the meats are great but as a rule of thumb I always tend to go for what the restaurants specialize in. Enjoy the views, family time and great food with phenomenal service. read less - 7/16/2019You can eat delicious salmon with great ocean view. Don't forget order some BC white wine. Our bus person arrived quickly and provided glasses of water with ice. Our waiter arrived a bit later.
I started with a Caesar salad which contained fried capers, grana padano cheese, a nice dressing and very crispy bread rounds. Companion had spring rolls which were nicely cooked to a golden brown, but the dipping sauce seemed a bit odd . It contained a lot of chopped chilies and had an odd flavor instead of the usual sweet chili that is usually served.
For the main course, I had smoked sable fish. It was served with roasted Jerusalem artichokes, baby squash, baby carrots, all of which were perfectly cooked. In particular the Jerusalem artichokes were beautifully roasted. The dish had nice flavor and a good sauce. Companion ordered a Salmon trio consisting of Chinook, Sockeye, and Coho. It was served with baby carrots, baby squash, slices of pepper, and small cut potatoes. Of interest is that each type of salmon was seasoned with a different seasoning and was served over a maple glaze.
My dessert was problematic. It was described as being a green tea Panna Cota with Chantilly Cream, Matcha green tea, and fresh berries. Most of the dish was not as described on the menu. The "Panna Cota" was nothing like any Panna Cota I have ever had. It had an odd texture, and had a lack of Matcha flavor. The Chantilly Cream was nicely created, but the berries, while pretty, were so thinly sliced as to contribute no flavor to the creation, though visually, they were very nice. The cut up blackberries were disturbingly ugly and took away from the harmony of the dish. Topping the dish was a bent tuille, which had nice flavor, but did not have the crispness that a tuille should have. Companion had a Maple Walnut Tart with Caramel and Walnut gelato, topped with spun sugar, walnuts and a sliced strawberry. Companion enjoyed the dessert.
Cudo's to our bus person for excellent service. Cudo's also to the chef who cooked the fish to perfection.
Dings for the salad being cut into too large pieces to be easily eaten.
Dings for the waiter who took almost 15 minutes for our check.
Dings for no toilet paper in the ladies room.
